There could be the release of a new Abarth sports car that will be based on the Lotus Elise. A source has said that the company is planning an Abarth two-seater and it has already been given the green light.

It has been reported that the car will be revealed in 2011 and it might be using the Lotus underpinnings. It will be more than just a rebadge of the Lotus Elise.

The new model will be using different engine set-ups, with the Abarth opting for Fiat’s new-generation turbocharged, direct-inject, air-valve four-cylinder engines. These motors promise high torque, high power and low emissions. The new car is expected to have 240bhp and a mid-mounted four-cylinder engine, with a weight of no more than 900kg.
