Saab decides to halt the 9-X BioHybrid production

The Saab 9-X BioHybrid was Saabs’ new concept which would be added to the line-up in the next few years. In the original form, the car was built on GM’s Delta architecture which underpins the Chevrolet Cruze and next generation Opel Astra. During the past few months we have seen Saab downsize their models, with the current 9-3 on mid-size Epsilon platform be changed to the smaller Delta platform.

This means that the 9-X, which might be called the 9-1 in production, could also shrink in size. Saab has halted the development of the 9-1, while they determine whether they want to sell the model in the compact premium small car segment, against the likes of the MINI and Fiat 500. If this does of course happen, the 9-1 will probably change its drivetrain. The concept was shown with a 200 hp flex-fuel version of GM’s new 1.4-litre direct injected turbo 4-cylinder, which was paired up with the company’s mild hybrid system.
