Marcelo Rosa seemed to be inspired by the revival of the Scirocco nameplate in the VolksWagen portfolio, as he created a modern interpretation of another Volkswagen coupe, which was known as the SP-2.

The SP-2 was built in Brazil from 1972-1976 and it was named after VW’s plant in Sao Paulo. The SP-2 was developed exclusively for the South American market.

The model was based on the underpinnings of the Type 3, and it was a two-seater coupe which was powered by a rear-mounted 4-cylinder boxer engine that developed 65-hp. It offered the SP-2 a top speed of 161km/h. The SP2’s powerplant is what cause the model to disappear in 1976, even after selling over 10,000 units.

Marcelo Rosa’s design seems to look quite good, and it would be a good starting point if VW do decide to bring the model back.
