We have only just had the MK-VI Golf released, and now Volkswagen are already working on the replacement, which will be due in 2012 – two years before we thought it might have been replaced.

The illustrations from AutoExpress reveal what the MkVII will look like, and it shows evolutionary styling from VW.

Reports are saying that the Golf MkVII will be very different from the MkVI, and it is expected that VW will take a jump similar to Ford with the Escort to Focus range in 1998.

There will be new dimensions for the new MkVII and this means that there will be a smaller platform than the current model, along with many components coming from the Polo.

There are also going to be new diesel engines which VW hope will make up for majority sales. The new Golf is expected to feature a highly efficient twin-clutch DSG ‘box, while the GTI model will feature a seven-ratio ‘box instead of the normal six speed.

Expect a hybrid Golf which will feature Twin Drive technology. The twin drive technology will feature a 1.5-litre diesel unit with an electric motor. The car will be able to drive on battery power alone for around 30 miles at 31mph.
