Toyota in Japan have announced the pricing for their 2010 Prius model. The third generation Prius will fight against the Honda Insight, until the death. Well, not quite until the death, but on instead on the car market – which seems to have a few automakers dying out in the US.

However, enough about that. The next-generation Prius will be priced at 2.05 million Yen, which is $21,400 USD. This makes the price 300,000 yen ($3,100) cheaper than the current Prius.

“Even before sales began, we have already received more than 80,000 orders [for the new Prius] so we have been able to make a start exceeding our expectations,” Toyota’ future president. currently executive vice president Akio Toyoda said in Tokyo.

Toyota are planning to sell 10,000 units per month in Japan, and they will like to sell a total of 300,000 to 400,000 units overall.

This is only the market launch in Japan, and the model will come to North America and Asia later this month.

“We have been able to bring the starting price closer to a price that customers would really feel they want to pay,” Toyoda said. ”I’m very relieved we made it in time.”

The Prius will be on sale for $22,000 in the USA, later this month.
