Chevrolet’s Volt – the electric car which has been receiving a load of media attention since it was unveiled in prototype form is back in the news again. But this time there are some queries about the importance of GM’s decisions to keep the car at bay until November 2010.

Well, the latest reports regarding the car which will apparently save GM states that it is still under production, and this might mean that it will miss it’s deadline. However, it’s been said that GM are scared of competition in this market, and they are actually worried that another company might develop, or purchase technology which puts the Volt on a mediocre level.

“Our competitors and others are pursuing similar technologies and other competing technologies, in some cases with more money available,” said GM. “There can be no assurance that they will not acquire similar or superior technologies sooner than we do.”

General Motors has said that they are still working extra hard to try and find a way to cut their costs on the model, and they are worried about the price of the battery.

“I’m not going to be specific about dates, but we will certainly look to make changes in the Volt to reduce cost as soon as they are available. Our biggest areas of interest are new developments that would reduce the cost of the battery pack, drive motor, power electronics and other systems that represent new technology in electric vehicles like the Volt, where the costs are very high in the beginning. We see the supply base for these technologies maturing rapidly,” GM said.
