BMW has said that they are planning to meet the stricter fuel laws of the future. The company has already started to plan their new engines for 2015+. The automaker has said that they will first however bring out a new four-cylinder petrol engine using a set of turbochargers for extra oomph.
The plans come from the North America BMW CEO, Jim O’Donell, as he announces that this engine will be here before 2015. It was reported that the new engine should actually find its way into the latest model 3-Series by around 2012.
After the 3-Series receives new power, the automaker will move onto the X1 and X3 models, and then the 1-Series models. The scary part about all of this is that BMW are taking really long to implement this into the US market, where the European models are already benefiting from similar set ups.
O’Donell said that the sky is the limit, and that the company sees a potential market for about 100,000 turbocharged engines.
