Volkswagen will use the Frankfurt Motor Show, which starts tomorrow for the press, to unveil their latest version of the 1-litre concept model. The name of the concept reveals the total amount of fuel required for the car to travel 100 kilometers.

Although the car is called the 1-litre concept, VW might have been slightly biased while naming it as the engine will actually use 1.49 litres of diesel for a 100 kilometer stretch. Either way, this is such a minimal amount of fuel it doesn’t actually matter on this level.

The first VW 1-litre concept was created in 2002 where it was super-expensive. The car has now been reworked with new technology and materials for a less pricey build with a new design style that works with the current VW theme. The engine will be a 36-horsepower diesel unit working with a 7-speed DSG gearbox. VW has cut the overall weight to about 1,100 pounds, and this comes thanks to the carbon fibre composites used in the body.

Volkswagen expects to have this model in production by 2010.
