Sources from Porsche has said that the current generation Cayenne will no longer be produced during the December month of this year. The Porsche factory in Leipzig will be modified to take on the next generation Cayenne, as well as the Panamera four-door-coupe.

The next generation Cayenne has not yet been revealed and this means that we can expect a reveal during the Geneva Motor Show, as the re-structuring of the plant for the new model will take about two to three months.

Porsche’s new Cayenne for 2011 will use the same platform as the next-generation Volkswagen Touareg and Audi Q7. The new Cayenne is expected to save a lot of weight, and rumours are suggesting that the drop will be around 250 to 300 kilograms. The big drop in weight will come as the company will replace steel pieces with high-strength aluminium and magnesium.

The German automaker will pretty much eliminate most of the off-road features for a better on-road experience. The drop in off-road capabilities is pretty much due to none of the owners really going off-road with the SUV.

Performance wise we can expect the 7-speed PDK gearbox, as well as a new set of engine variants. There will also be a new Hybrid S version.
