McLaren are building a new factory which includes the layout to create a “Webasto RHT Sub Assembly”. Webasto is known for creating advanced roof systems which include sunroofs and folding hard tops. The RHT acronym stands for Retractable Hard-Top, and this means that McLaren could be planning something special for the future.
Sources have claimed that a carbon-fibre hard-top is on the cards, where there are currently several layouts that have been set aside.
With the new 18,000 square foot factory, McLaren are expecting to deliver their newest models in 2011. The new plant should produce around 4,500 cars in a year, and this is a good increase over the current amount of models built per day.
McLaren will build the MP4-12C Spider. This model will be powered by the same engine as the coupe version.
