Toyota has not yet been active in the South Korean market, where in 2000 the world’s largest automaker gained some exposure with the Lexus brand. However, despite all of that, Toyota has decided that they would like to sell Toyota branded cars in the Hyundai-based country.

Toyota said that sales started today in five new dealerships in the country. The Japanese automaker will start selling four different models which include the Prius, Camry, Camry Hybrid and RAV4 compact SUV.

The world’s largest automaker said that they are planning to sell 500 vehicles monthly, and then boost this to 700 vehicles in 2010.

Toyota Motor Company Executive Vice President Yukitoshi Funo said: “The introduction of the Toyota brand into South Korea is aimed to meet the diversifying needs of consumers in this growing market. We intend to make every effort to contribute to South Korean society and earn a loyal following.”
