Ferrari has said that they are considering the transition to turbocharged cars, however, they said that they would first need to improve the technology before installing it.

Ferrari’s engine developer, Jean-Jacques said that the biggest problem with forced-induction was lag.

“Turbocharging will come eventually, but we need to solve the issue of turbo lag,” he told Autocar.

The developer went on to explain that a power delay, of any sort, is simply unacceptable for any Ferrari engine. The supercar maker said that they Fiat’s MultiAir technology, but it could not boost the car to the required output.

“The main benefit from Multiair comes in torque,” he said, “and it is difficult to get it to work at high revs.”
