Despite the fact that General Motors are now looking to once again keep the Opel brand, the company will still have to cut jobs. While many complained about Magna International having to cut jobs, it seems that this is in fact inevitable. GM are expected to cut about 10,000 jobs in the Opel brand.
“We had negotiated a good restructuring plan which was ready and on the table,” Forster was quoted as saying by Reuters. “Now there is a danger that the sensible distribution of the burden we had agreed will unravel and the process will start all over again. One thing is certain: even with this solution, there will be massive cuts.”
GM will submit their first proposal for the Opel restructuring plan very soon, and this should allow the Detroit automaker to keep their own.
