General Motors Will Not Use The Volt Name On Future Cars

General Motors has said that they will offer all new plug-in hybrids without the Volt name. Of course the original Volt will include the Volt name, and it will go on sale later next year.

While General Motors seem to be dropping the name for a single model, Toyota are planning to create an entire family of Prius models.

“Our thought is to take the Volt technology to other products,” Brent Dewar, chief of global operations for Chevrolet said. “The Volt was the original vehicle that we started, but I wouldn’t see that as a brand marketing direction for us.”

Toyota are using their Prius success for a brand, where GM do not see this as a viable solution. Surely if the car receives positive feedback it would be a good market to enter?

The Voltec technology will still be fitted to future models, as GM will only drop the name.
