Tata has said that they are looking for someone to walk in the footsteps of 71-year old chairman, Ratan Tata. The company said that they are considering local and also foreign candidates for the head position. The selected candidate will have to run Tata Motors, Tata Steel, Tata Consultancy Services and Tat Power.

“We are in the process of formalising a successor to me,” Tata said in an interview. “We have some outside consultants and a formal search process is on. There are no constraints.”

Is anyone even capable of running all of those at once? Well, so far all of the chairmen have been Tata’s, except for one. So it seems as if this is possible.

Tata currently revenues $71 billion and holds 357,000 employees.

“It would certainly be easier if that candidate were an Indian national,” Tata said. “But now that 65 percent of our revenues come from overseas, it could also be an expatriate sitting in that position with justification now.”
