The Fiat Punto Emotion For South Africa — Pricing Starts At R158,500
Minor Changes & Pricing | Dean | November 26, 2009 at 20:20Fiat has said that the new Punto Emotion will go on sale in the South African market for a starting price of R158,500.
Oscar Rivoli, the managing director for Fiat South Africa has said that the new Punto will fit into the line up as an affordable hatchback.
“We perceived a gap in our line-up for a quality, well-specced, family-oriented yet affordable hatch. The new Punto fills that need and then some. Buyers are becoming a lot more discerning; they demand more in terms of features and safety, yet value-for-money is still at the top of their list – the new Punto Emotion ticks all of these boxes.” said Rivoli.
Fiat said that the Grande Punto will evolve where there will only be two cars in the hatchback segement, the Punto Emotion and the Punto Evo. The Evo is pretty much an evolution of the Grande Punto already.
The engine for the Fiat Punto Emotion will be a 1.4-litre 4-cylinder unit with 66kW and 115Nm of torque. There will be a top speed of 165km/h along with a 0-100km/h time of 15.72 seconds. Fuel consumption is set at an average of 7.3-litres per 100km.
Standard features include power steering with audio controls on the steering wheel, Blue&Me Telecommunication System, CD/MP3 player with 6 speakers, remote central locking, front and rear power windows, electric mirrors, an on-board computer, dual-tone dashboard, leather-sheathed steering wheel and a boot light.
The Italian automaker has not sacrificed any safety features on the car, so expect to find dual front air bags, ABS with EBD braking, Fire Prevention, Follow-Me-Home headlamps, and a new Fiat Code System rolling code immobiliser.

Is this whats needed to kick start FIAT in South Africa ? They were successful in the 1990’s but then went nowhere in the 2000’s.
I think they just got lost with the new cars. They were successful with their Uno and after that stopped production they didn’t really get another good product out there.
The old Palio’s etc were OK, but this is definitely the better deal right now..
