South African motorists, be warned as the Arrive Alive campaign has officially kicked off.
As part of the fight against drunk-driving, the Arrive Alive campaign will sell disposable breathalyzers at Engen garages country-wide.
“We have partnered with the private sector to ensure that you are able to test your own alcohol levels before driving through purchasing a disposable alcohol breathalyzer,” said Transport Minister Sibusiso Ndebele at the launch of Arrive Alive’s campaign for the holiday season in Orange Farm, Gauteng.
The transport minister mumbled that disposable breathalyzers will soon be available at other outlets in the near future, however the initial start will see these units at Engen only.
It’s been said that traffic officials are planning to stop and check no less than one million vehicle across the country. This massive number will need to be checked throughout December and January.
The police are planning to set up roadside checkpoints, or roadblocks, to try and stop abusive driving.
“There will be zero tolerance for all traffic offences.”
Traffic officials are expected to stop pedestrian jaywalking, as well as drunk and disorderly walking on roads.
