GM Drops The Saab Bids — The 9-5 Production Will Start In January
Reports | Dean | January 4, 2010 at 18:23General Motors has removed the December 31 deadline for Saab bids, as they said that they will restart some of the production lines in January. General Motors originally discussed a month-end deadline for bids as they are planning to dissolve the company.
Spyker Cars are interested in the brand, and they have until the 7th of January to submit a bid. The CEO of Spyker also believes that there are many bidders for the brand.
If GM had to shut Saab down there would be about 3,400 jobs eliminated, and about 1,100 dealerships affected.
The Saab spokesman, Eric Geers, said that the company will restart some of the production lines again during January.
“We have the orders and we have to deliver them as usual. We also have the orders for the 9-3 and others. The factory has to continue again,” Geers said. ”We are preparing the wind-down process. At the same time we are open to options, to bids that come in. Therefore the deadline has also been dropped,” Geers said.
