The 2011 Volkswagen Jetta Might Receive Some R Treatment
Miscellaneous, Rumours | Dean | January 29, 2010 at 12:27American’s might soon be able to benefit from a R-line version of the new Jetta. The Jetta R Sport will compete against cars such as the Honda Civic Si, Scion tC TRD and the Ford Focus RS — should it find it’s way across the pond.
The news was hinted at the Golf R launch which took place in Austria.
“Our modular construction and production process make it fairly straightforward,” the source said. “It’s now a matter of formulating a sound business case to ensure the car is profitable. We don’t want to leave the affordable performance sedan market in the US to our rivals but importing sporting models from Europe is proving prohibitively expensive at the moment.”
If Volkswagen do build the car, it will use the same engine as the Golf R and Scirocco R models. There will be the 2.0-litre turbocharged engine followed by 265-horsepower with 258lb-ft of torque. There might be four-wheel-drive, however don’t rule out a front-wheel-drive layout just yet.
